The Ideal Reader

Yesterday, I was looking for good essays when I found Alberto Manguel’s Notes Towards the Definition of The Ideal Reader from A Reader on Reading.  That reader/writer relationship has, naturally, been rattling ’round my brain for years, with no real progress.  When I read Manguel’s notes, I was reminded of that line from James Baldwin’s Giovanni’s Room: “With everything in me screaming No! the sum of me sighed Yes.”
