Maurice Sendak’s new book is out.
There have been several interesting articles about Mr. Sendak, all of which paint him as a cantankerous geezer who insists on telling horrific stories to children. Check out the “amendment” at the bottom of this article.
I’ve never met Mr. Sendak: I don’t know if he’s really a cantankerous geezer or not. But I do know that I’ve never met a kid who didn’t like his books, and I’ve never met a kid who was afraid of his books.
It seems to be the adults who are afraid of the monsters. Are there enough therapists in this world to deal with them?
P.S. I never met a kid who was traumatised by Mickey’s penis, either. If they notice, they just giggle. Gawd, there are a lot of adults who need help.
